Manipur is the primary hub for Kauna grass, where it is cultivated in wetlands, often alongside rice fields.
While Manipur is the center of commercial production of Kauna Products, it is also found in the marshy, tropical areas of Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The grass grows up to 10 feet tall in freshwater environments, such as swamps, ponds, and riverbanks.

It is harvested three times a year.

It is widely used to create eco-friendly products, including mats, bags, baskets and cushions.
The craft is a significant source of income for rural women, particularly in the Sate of Manipur.
